You know what completely blows my mind? The fact that anybody can make a difference in the world if they put in the effort. Isn't that great? You don't have to be a famous public figure to make a difference in someone's life. The fact that I can help change someone's life for the better gives me such a great feeling that I can't even describe it. It makes all the bad things in the world seem less.
Amazing.
I have my interview next Wednesday at Big Brothers Big Sisters to get matched for my new little. I'm over the moon excited [except for the $25 I have to fork over for the background check]. And the match coordinator on the phone was so excited to have a new volunteer because the have more Littles looking for a Big than Bigs lending their time. And that's what breaks my heart.
I remember how it felt in high school when I got matched with my little brother. We met in the cafeteria of his elementary school during the after school program. We'd be sitting at one of the tables, playing with Legos or working on his homework and another kid from the program would come up to us. That kid would tell me how he or she wished that they'd finally get matched with a big brother or big sister, and it would break my heart that I couldn't be there for all of them.
It's a horrible realization when you see that these little kids don't have anyone at home that really supports them, and then they're stuck in the waiting game with a simple wish of someone to come just visit with them for one hour out of the day. Along with that amazing feeling of helping someone, I'm also stuck with a sinking feeling that, at the end of the day, I couldn't do more to help the rest of the kids out.
That being said, I'm super excited to be getting back into the BBBS family this year!

So, I've decided to use this journal as an actual journal again. But I've changed it to a friend's only journal.
So if you want to see it, comment it and tell me why you want to be my friend and I'll add you.
